Pwnage Pick of the Day #1 4/1

PPOTD Record: 7-2
Last PPOTD: 3/30 Houston Rockets (Win)

Liverpool Win (42 Points) at Newcastle United Win/Draw (50 Points)

Newcastle is 8-2 at home with 5 draws this season. That would make them 13-2 in these props this year. Newcastle's last home loss was to West Bromwich back on December 21st. Since that time Newcastle has 5 wins and 2 draws. They have outscored opponents 12-4 at home since December 21st. Newcastle has 2 wins, 1 loss, and 2 draws in their last 5 games.

Liverpool is 6-8 with 1 draws on the road this year. 6-9 in these type of props on the road. Liverpool's last road win was on January 31st when they beat Wolverhampton. Their last road win against a team not in last place in the current EPL standings was on Jan 11th. They have been outscored on the road 8-5 since January 31st. In Liverpool's last 8 games they have 2 wins, 5 losses, and a draw.

Conclusion: Newcastle is at home where they haven't lost since December. Liverpool is on the road where they havn't won since January. Newcastle is the clear favorite here, and will start our month with a nice W1!

Pick: Newcastle W/D
Confidence: Any streak (Normally: W10 or less, but no one has any streak yet)

Pwnage Pick of the Day 4/1 #2

PPOTD Record: 8-2
Last PPOTD: 4/1 Newcastle United W/D (Win)
PPOTD: Philadelphia Flyers at Pittsburgh Penguins
Hockey PPOTD: 3-1
Today there will be 2 PPOTD to celebrate the beginning of the new month!
The Pittsburgh Penguins have cooled off a little bit since their 11 game winning streak, which was snapped against this same Flyers team in March, going 4-3 since then, but they are still 27-9 in their last 36 games. At home the Penguins are 27-11 this year. In their last 18 games, Pittsburgh is 16-2 at home. Pittsburgh played their last game on Friday Night beating Buffalo 5-3. Pittsburgh's last home game was a 5-3 loss against the New York Islanders on Tuesday Night.
Kris Letang will probably be returning for today. The Penguins have no other major injuries
The Philadelphia Flyers are 4-4 in their last 8 games. On the road, they are 24-15 this year. The Flyers are 2-2 in their last 4 road games. Their last game was a 4-3 home shootout loss to Ottawa Saturday Night. Their last road game was a 7-1 win over Toronto on Thursday Night.
The Flyers starting goalie will be probably be out for the game today.
If these teams werent rivals this would be a much higher confidence pick. But, the Penguins are still the better team, and especially with the injury to the Flyers goalie, they will win.
Pick: Pittsburgh Penguins
Confidence: W5 or less

There will be no PPOTD today. Happy new month's eve!

Tiebreaker Pick #1: How many points will Kentucky win by (If you think Louisville will win, the answer is 0)
Tiebreaker Pick #2: How many points will be scored in the Ohio State vs Kansas Game (No Overtime)

Pwnage Pick of the Day 3/31

PPOTD Record: 6-2
Last PPOTD: Chicago Blackhawks (Win)
Current PPOTD Streak: W4

Today's Pick: Memphis Grizzlies (27-21) at Houston Rockets (27-24)
NBA PPOTD Record: 2-1

The Houston Rockets have won 3 of their last 5 games, but at home lately, they have been a stronger team with 4 wins in their last 5 home games, and 8 wins in their last 11 home contests. Overall this year, the Rockets are 19-7 at the Toyota Center. The Rockets last game was a 90-81 loss to the Dallas Mavericks in Dallas on Tuesday Night. When playing after two or more days off this year, the Rockets are 4-3. Houston's last home game was against the Sacramento Kings which was a 113-106 home overtime victory on Monday Night.

The Rockets have a couple injuries to deal with. Point guard Kyle Lowry will miss his twelfth consecutive game. Since Lowry has been out, the Rockets are 6-5. Lowry averages 15.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 5.3 rebounds per game. 2-guard Kevin Martin is day-to-day for the Rockets. Kevin averages 17.1 points, 2.8 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game. The Rockets are 5-4 since he has gotten injured.

The Memphis Grizzles have won 2 straight games, but even with that boost lately, they are still only 4-6 in their last 10 games (3-5 in last 8). On the road, the Grizzles are 1-3 in their last 4 games. Overall, the Grizzles are 10-14 away from Memphis. Their last game was a 93-86 victory over Minnesota in Memphis on Tuesday Night. Memphis is 3-1 after a couple days or more off between games. Memphis' last road game was at the LA Lakers which they won 102-96 on Sunday Night.

Center Marc Gasol is day-to-day for the Grizzles. He averages 15.5 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game this year. Mike Conley is listed as day-to-day and sat out practice, but he was able to play through the pain on Tuesday Night, so I will assume that he can play again.

Conclusion: The Houston Rockets are a very good home team this year. The Grizzles, even though they won their last 2 games, are still struggling, and are a bad team on the road. Marc Gasol would be a huge loss for the Grizzles while the players injured for the Rockets, haven't affected Houston to a large extent as they have still been able to play +.500 ball since their injuries.

Pwnage Pick of the Day 3/29

PPOTD Record: 5-2
Last PPOTD: New York Knicks (Win)
St. Louis Blues (48-29, 105 Points) at Chicago Blackhawks (42-35, 93 Points)
Hockey PPOTD Record: 2-1
The Chicago Blackhawks have lost the last two games, but before that they had won 9 of their last 11 games. They are 12-4 in their last 16 home games. Overall, they are 26-11 at home this year. In their last game, they lost 2-1 in a shootout to the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday Night. Their last home game was a 6-1 loss versus Nashville Predators on Sunday Night.
The Blackhawks have been getting a few players back from injury, but they are still down a few men. Centerman Jonathon Toews is out for the Blackhawks. The hawks are 9-7 since he got injured, he has 57 points on the year. Ray Emery is coming back from an injury and might even play tonight. Steve Mantador just returned from the IR.
The St. Louis Blues are 3-4 in their last 7 games. At home they are 2-4 in their last 6 road games. Overall, they are 18-21 on the road. Their last game was a 3-0 victory over Nashville on Tuesday Night. Their last road game was a 4-0 win over the Coyotes. Based on those two last games, you would think the Blues would have an easy victory coming, but that was with Brian Elliot as the goalie, but instead of Elliot, Jaroslav Halak will be the goalie tonight for the Blues. Halak has allowed 8 goals in his last 3 games.
Defenseman Roman Polak will be out for the Blues tonight. He has 11 points on the year, and his team is 2-2 since he is out.
If Elliot was the goalie tonight, I would change my pick, but with Halak struggling lately and the Blues bad road record, plus the return of solid contributors for the Blackhawks will cement the Blackhawks as the winners tonight in an upset.
Pick: Chicago Blackhawks
Confidence: W5 or less

Pwnage Pick of the Day (#1) 3/28

Due to yesterday's pick of the day being canceled (30 min before start time due to the low scoring in the first half, there will be two picks of the day today.

PPOTD Record: 4-2
Last PPOTD: San Jose Sharks

Today's First Pick: Orlando Magic (32-18) at New York Knicks (25-25)

The New York Knicks have turned it around in the last couple weeks. They are 7-1 in their last 8 games since they fired their coach. At home they are 5-0 in that time. This year the Knicks are 16-10 at the MSG. Since firing their coach, the Knicks have won by an average of 21.4 points. The Knicks last game was a 89-80 home win over the Milwaukee Bucks on March 26th. Without Amare Stoudemire, Carmelo Anthony put together one of his best performance of the season with 28 points and 12 rebounds in that game.

Amare Stoudemire is out for the next few weeks. Caremlo Anthony will play.

The Orlando Magic have won 3 straight since their disaster vs Chicago where they only scored 59 points in a 85-59 loss. But if you look at the teams they have beaten, they aren't exactly beating the best in the East (Wins over Phoenix, Cleveland, and Toronto). In their last 7 games overall, they are 4-3. In their last 5 road games, they are 2-3. Orlando's last game was against the Toronto Raptors on Monday Night, they won 117-101.

The Magic have no major injuries.

Even with the injuries to Amare Stoudemire, and a banged up Carmelo Anthony. The Knicks are still a better team than the Magic, they are on fire since the firing of their coach, and they will beat an Orlando Magic team that has had its struggles.

Pick: New York Knicks
Confidence: W5 or less

Pwnage Pick of the Day 3/27

THIS IS NO LONGER THE PWNAGE PICK OF THE DAY AS OF 10:15pm ET

PPOTD Record: 4-2
Last PPOTD: San Jose Sharks (Win)
Todays Pick: How many points will be scored in the 2nd half of the Minnesota vs Washington game.
This last weekend their has been a good amount of these props during the NCAA Tournament and all of them have gone over. Although all of them were easy victories for the over, I think that these props will be closer.
2nd half points for Washington in tournament days (NCAA's and Pac-12)
vs Oregon: 88 total points 48 for Washington
vs Northwestern: 60 total points 37 for Washington
vs UTA: 80 total points 45 for Washington
Oregon State: 91 total points 51 for Washington
2nd half points for Minnesota in tournament days (NCAA's and Big Ten)
vs Middle Tennessee: 90 total points 50 for Minnesota
vs Miami (FL): 80 total points 37 for Miami (FL)
vs LaSalle: 54 total points 30 for Minnesota
vs Michigan: 69 total points 33 for Minnesota
vs Northwestern: 52 total points 27 for Minnesota
Average Points scored by Minnesota and Washington: 39.78 points
Multiply by 2: 79.56 points
The line for this game is -1, so it should be a close game, which means free throws.
I am predicting a lot of points and green for the overs!
Pick: Over 74 points
Confidence: W4 or fewer

Pwnage Pick of the Day 3/26

PPOTD Record: 3-2
Last PPOTD: Maryland Terps (Win)

Today's Pick: Colorado Avalanche (40-37, 86 Points) at San Jose Sharks (38-37, 86 Points)

The San Jose Sharks after a terrible stretch to begin the month of March are starting to turn it around a little bit and are 5-3 in their last 8 games. At home, they have proven to be even more successful recently going 4-1 in their last 5 home games. Overall, they are 23-15 at home. San Jose's last home game was versus the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday Night which they won 4-3 in a shootout (2-0 in shootout).

The Sharks have no current injuries.

The Colorado Avalanche have gone W,L,W,L,W,L in their last 6 road games. Their last road game was on Thursday Night against the Phoenix Coyotes, the lost 3-2. Overall, the Avalanche are 18-20 on the road. The Avs have lost two straight games.

Defenseman Erik Johnson for the Colorado Avalanche has missed the last 3 games due to back spasms, he has 24 points this season.

This will be the fourth game that these teams have played this year. In their last matchup on December 15th. San Jose won 5-4 in San Jose.

Pick: Colorado Avalanche
Confidence: W5 or less

Other Suggested Picks 3/25

Suggested Pick: Pierre Jackson or Tie vs. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

Pierre Jackson 1st half points in tournament games (NCAA's and Big 12 only)

8 points vs. Xavier
2 points vs. Colorado
12 points vs. South Dakota State
3 points vs. Missouri
7 points vs. Kansas
5 points vs. Kansas State

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

11 points vs. Indiana
0 points vs. Iowa State
2 points vs. Western Kentucky
3 points vs. Vanderbilt
4 points vs. Florida
10 points vs. LSU

Go with the tie option here, MKG is an all or nothing player, while Pierre Jackson is only slightly less of an all or nothing player.

Pick: Pierre Jackson or Tie (Low Confidence)

Pwnage Pick of the Day 3/25

PPOTD: 2-1
Last Pick: LA Kings (Pick in progress at the time of this writing)

Texas A&M (22-10) vs. Maryland (28-4) (Women's College Basketball)

Texas A&M is ranked #22 in the AP Top 25. In their last 9 games, they are only 5-4. Texas A&M has beaten only one ranked team this year. All the way back on November 15th, they beat Louisville 76-58. They have lost at #13 Purdue by 9 points, #3 UConn by 30 points, and #1 Baylor 3 times (by 23, by 7, and by 23). Other than the undefeated Baylor, the Big 12 is down this year with no other teams ranked. In their first two tournament games, they beat #14 Albany (23-10) 69-47, and #6 Arkansas (24-9 Received Votes in Top 25 Poll) 61-59.

Maryland is ranked #5 in the AP Top 25. They have won 9 straight games, and 12 of their last 13. Unlike Texas A&M, Maryland has beaten 6 ranked teams this year. They have beaten #17 Georgetown 72-53 on November 13th, #7 Delaware 85-75 on December 29th, #15 Georgia Tech three times (77-74, 64-56, 68-65), #6 Duke 63-61 on February 19th, and #19 Louisville 72-68 in round 2 of the NCAA Tournament. They have lost twice to#9 Miami (FL) (75-63, 76-74) the second result being Maryland last loss and their only loss in their last 13 games, and at #6 Duke 80-72 on Jan 22nd. In the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Maryland beat Navy (18-16) 59-44. They also beat Louisville (See Above).

Maryland is the hotter team, they are ranked higher, they have beaten more top 25 teams, and they will beat Texas A&M.

Pick: Maryland
Confidence: W5 or less

Pwnage Pick of the Day 3/24

Monthly PPOTD Record: 2-1
Last Pick: Utah Jazz (Win)
PPOTD Streak: W2

Today's Pick: Boston Bruins (42-31, 87 Points) vs. LA Kings (37-37, 86 Points)

If you only look at the records, Boston seems to be the obvious pick, but if you do even a little bit of research, you can see how the obvious lock that is the Kings.

The LA Kings have won 6 in a row at home, and are 21-17 overall at home. In this 6 game home win streak, they have outscored opponents 24-8. The Kings have also won 6 straight, and 9 out of 11 (at home and on the road), outscoring opponents 22-10 during their 6 game win streak. The Kings have no major injuries.

The Boston Bruins have lost 4 straight road games, against teams such as Tampa Bay, Florida, and San Jose. They are 2-5 in thier last 7 games overall.

The Kings are on fire, the Bruins are not.

Pick: LA Kings
Confidence: W12 or lower

Sorry for the short write-up, I have to work today.

No more upset specials, Other Suggested Picks: 3/23

From now on, I will not be posting any upset specials, as I think it is smarter to just research one lock pick, instead of two weak picks.

Instead of an upset special, I will post some other suggested picks if I feel that there is evidence supporting that pick, just not enough to make it the pick of the day. These picks will have very short write-ups and often will just have a few stats.

Suggested Pick #1: Cody Zeller or Tie

I would take Cody Zeller even if he didn't have the tie option, but with the tie, he is a slam-dunk.

Cody Zeller First Half Points in Tournament Games (Big Ten and NCAA's only)

10 points vs. VCU
7 points vs. New Mexico State
9 points vs. Wisconsin
12 points vs. Penn State

Anthony Davis First Half Points in Tournament Games (SEC and NCAA's only)

10 points vs. Iowa State
5 points vs. Western Kentucky
6 points vs. Vanderbilt
10 points vs. Florida
1 points vs. LSU

These two teams played on December 10th in Indiana, here are the first half poitn totals for each player:

Cody Zeller: 7 Points
Anthony Davis: 4 Points

Anthony Davis is more of an all-or-nothing scorer while Cody Zeller will give you similir first half point totals. Plus, since Kentucky has more weapons then Indiana they are more likely to look to someone else for points.

Pick: Cody Zeller or Tie

Pick #2: Tu Holloway First Half Points: 8 or fewer, 9 or more

Tu Holloway First Half Points in Tournaments (A-10 and NCAA's only)

6 vs. Lehigh Xavier was down by 4 at the half
8 vs. Notre Dame Xavier was down by 2 at the half
11 vs. St. Bonaventure Xavier was down by 13 at the half
6 vs. Saint Louis Xavier was up by 6 at the half
10 vs. Dayton Xavier was down by 10 at the half

The real question here is do you think that Xavier will be close at halftime. When the game is close, Tu Holloway doesn't score as much, but when they are down by a sizable amount, he feels the need to take over the game.

Pick: 8 or fewer (Low Confidence)

Pwnage Pick of the Day 3/24

Monthly PPOTD Record: 1-1
Last Pick: Pittsburgh Penguins Win

Denver Nuggets (26-21) at Utah Jazz (25-22)
Line: Utah by 1.5

The Utah Jazz are a pretty formidable home team this year with an 18-6 record at the Energy Solutions Arena. They have won 6 straight home games beating some good teams during this stretch including Oklahoma City (97-90, Mar. 20th) and Miami (99-98, Mar. 2nd). Overall, they have won 5 straight games. The last time they played was last night in Sacramento where they won 103-102. Their last home game was against Oklahoma City which they won 97-90 on Tuesday Night. There is a small concern with playing the second game of a back-to-back after flying in the night before, but I don't think that it will prove to be an issue.

The Jazz have a few injuries right now, but it hasn't stopped them from winning lately. Raja Bell who averages around 20 min a game and 6 points a game is day-to-day, and so is Earl Watson who also averages around 20 min a game, but with only 3 points per game. Josh Howard is out for the season for the Jazz, but it didn't stop them from winning their last two games. He averages around 23 min and 9 points per game.

The Denver Nuggets have not played a road game since Mar. 4th when they beat San Antonio 99-94. The Nuggets are a very solid road team with a 11-9 record, but only 2-4 in their last 6 road games. Overall, the Nuggets have gone W,L,W,L,W,L,W,L their last 8 games, with their last game, against Detroit on Wednesday Night, being a 116-115 win. Maybe they are due for a loss...

The Nuggets have a few injuries of their own. Rudy Fernandez is out for the year, he provided an average of around 23 min and 9 points a game. Also, Andre Miller is day-to-day, he added 28 min a game and 10 points with 7 rebounds this season on average.

The Nuggets and the Jazz have played twice this season. Both of the games played were in Denver with each team winning one game. On December 28th, the Nuggets beat the Jazz 117-100. On Jan 15th, the Jazz avenged their earlier loss with a 106-96 victory in Denver.

Conclusion: Even though the Denver Nuggets are a good road team, I really like Utah's dominance lately at home. If Utah can recover from a late night flight, and show up tonight, they should be able to beat the Nuggets to win the season series, and net green for us all!

Pick: Utah Jazz
Confidence: W5 or less

Please Comment and Good Luck!

Pwnage Upset Special 3/22

Upset Special this month: 0-1 (MTSU couldn't quite pull it out yesterday, but it was the lowest confidence upset pick, so I'm not to worried).

Today's pick: Milwaukee Bucks (21-24) over Boston Celtics (24-21)

The Milwaukee Bucks have won 6 games in a row and 7 out of 8. They have won 4 out of their last 5 home games (The one loss being to the Bulls). They are 9-11 at home. The Bucks are a different team after their trade for Ellis.

The Boston Celtics will play their 7th game of an 8 game road trip tonight. On this road trip they are 3-3. Boston is 5-9 in their last 14 road games.

These two teams have played once this year in Boston where the Celtics won 102-96.

Pick: Milwaukee Bucks
Confidence: Upset Warning

Pwnage Pick of the Day 3/22

Monthly Lock Record: 0-1 (Unfortunatly, the Mavericks just couldn't seem to get over the hump vs. the Lakers)

Today's pick: Nashville Predators (42-31, 92 points) at. Pittsburgh Penguins (45-27, 96 points)

The Pittsburgh Penguins have been a very tough team to beat in the last month or so. They are 12-1 in their last 13 games (that one loss was against their rival Flyers with 0.8 seconds left in the overtime period), and 15-3 in their last 18. At home they are almost unbeatable as they have won their last 8 home games and are, in fact, 14-1 in their last 15 home contests. Pittsburgh's overall home record is 25-10. Pittsburgh's last home game was an 8-4 demolishing of the Winnepig Jets on Tuesday Night. They have no current injuries and are playing like the best team in the NHL. Pittsburgh is a team that you do not want to bet against especially at home.

The Nashville Predators are 5-5 in their last 10 games, and 1-3 in their last 4. Nashville has lost 2 of their last 3 road games, and 7 of 11. Nashville is without their center Paul Gaustad who has 20 points this year. Nashville lost their last game 7-3 to lowly Edmonton on Tuesday Night. Nashville's last road game was a win over Anaheim 3-1 on Sunday Night.

This will be the first head-to-head matchup for these teams this year. Last year, these teams played once early in the year. Pittsburgh won that game 4-3 on an Kris Letang overtime goal.

Pick: Pittsburgh
Confidence: W7 or lower

If you want to wait out 2 1/2 hours, this is your pick. Pittsburgh has the advantage this year, is hotter, and at home.

Pwnage Upset Special 3/21

Disclaimer: Upsets are based on percentage picked by SFTC players, not odds.

Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders

While Minnesota has had a nice run towards the end of the year, they are not a team that I would trust yet. Even after winning their last two road games, they are still only 5-6 on the road. Minnesota does have some flashes of brilliance on the road as shown in their win against Indiana, but they are still an under .500 road team.

Home-court advantage is huge in college basketball, and Middle Tennessee definatly has it when they play. MTSU is 15-1 at home this year. Their one loss was in double overtime against the Belmont Bruins, a loss which they later avanged on Decmber 13th. MTSU has beaten teams.

This should be a good game, but I believe that MTSU will get their victory and move on to the next round of the NIT.

Confidence: Upset Watch

Note: Confidence for Upset Specials are in three catagories, Upset Watch, Severe Upset Watch, Upset Warning, and Severe Upset Warning

Disclaimer: Upset Specials are not locks, they are picks that I believe have a decent chance of happening.

Please comment, and good luck!

Pwnage Pick of the Day 3/21

LA Lakers (28-18) at Dallas Mavericks (27-20):

The Dallas Mavericks have been on fire lately, especially at home. They have won 4 straight games, and are 9-2 at home in their last 11 games. Overall, they are 18-7 at home. Plus, it looks like Shawn Marion could be in action tonight for his first game after sitting out a couple of games.

Dallas played their last game on Monday night where they disposed of the Denver Nuggets in Denver 112-95. Dallas' last home game was Saturday Night where they beat the Spurs 106-99.

Dallas has a very similar winning percentage overall (57.4%) and after 1 night off (58.3%), even after a day off when they had won their previous game their percentage is still very similar (57.9%).

The Los Angeles Lakers have been a Jekyll and Hyde team this year. At home they are almost unbeatable with a 19-3 record, but on the road they are extremely vulnerable with a 9-15 record. The Lakers have lost their last two games, but before that they won their previous 5 games. Even with that nice streak, they are only 3-4 in their last 7 road games, including losses to Houston, Washington, and Detroit.

The Lakers played last night against the Houston Rockets in Houston. They played them tough for most of the game, but blew their lead with a 29-7 run by Houston to end the game, with a loss 107-104.

When playing the second game in two days this year, the Lakers are 6-7.

In head to head matchups this year, the Lakers have won both games. On Jan. 16th, the Lakers won at home 73-70. On Feb. 22nd, the Lakers won in Dallas 96-91 (That is one of only 2 home losses in Dallas' last 11 games)

Pick: Even though the Lakers have the head-to-head advantage, I still do not trust them on the road. This should be a great game to watch, that will probably be a close one. But, I believe that Dallas will prevail.

Confidence: W6 or less

What do you think? I will try to get these up at least 7 times a week (In other words, if I miss a day, I might put two up another day).

The Upset specials will be up later!
